E.ON are actively involved in deciding how we are going to replace the existing ageing reactors and build new more efficient safer Nuclear Reactors .

Responding to the challenges of climate change and energy security, a number of countries across the globe are considering whether nuclear should form part of their future energy mix. In Europe new nuclear reactors are under construction in Finland and France, and firm plans are in place in a number of other countries.

At E.ON we believe that nuclear power has the potential to make an important contribution to meeting the challenges of climate change and security of supply as part of a diverse energy mix. We are playing a leading role in helping to make that happen here in the UK.

Alongside our ongoing investment in renewables, decentralised energy, cleaner fossil, gas storage and energy efficiency, we believe that nuclear has an important role to play in helping provide secure, low carbon electricity for the UK in the future.

What’s happening in the UK?

The UK Government announced in 2008 that it is in “the public interest to allow energy companies the option of investing in new nuclear power stations and that we should therefore take the active steps necessary to facilitate that.” E.ON welcomed this decision and is one of a number of companies that have expressed an intention to pursue nuclear development opportunities in the UK.

Since then the UK Government has taken a number of steps. It has set up the Office for Nuclear Development (OND) to oversee the Government’s role in the process and established the Nuclear Development Forum (NDF).

The OND is now part of the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC) which was set up last autumn.

We are actively supporting E.on in their current recruitment drive to appoint senior managerial and director level Licencing, Regulatory Safety and Commercial personnel.
